“DIREQ” NJEL DE MESA Profile Overview



Featured in Reuters, Reader’s Digest, Probe, TV Patrol, 24 Oras, The Correspondents and every major broadsheet and glossy in the country as an all around performer, Njel de Mesa, fresh from his major concert at Eastwood last summer, will be releasing his hiphop album, VERSASTYLE, January 2009.

He is a critically acclaimed stage actor and director for Koiné, NCCA, and CCP—his plays won best play awards from 24/7 Nocturnal Awards, Aliw Awards nominations, and National Shoppers Choice hailed his theater company, Koiné One Acts as number 1 entertainment Center in QC.

Right after graduation, he founded Koiné Theater Foundation, a foundation that grants absolutely free performing arts classes to streetkids and has served 570 scholars to date with Mission Stations in Payatas, Smokey Mountain, Montalban, Commonwealth, Taguig, Marikina, Tondo, Pandacan and a provincial chapter in Nueva Ecija.

He is a multi-Don Carlos Palanca award-winning writer and has published two books, “Mga Dula ni Njel de Mesa” and “Pa’no Maging Magaling na Spinner?”. His children’s plays are also a part of play-anthologies published by UST and U.P. Press. He now judges the Palanca Awards.

An award-winning songwriter and musician able to play 16 musical instruments, he owns and sound engineers for STUDIO ni DireQ digital Recording Studio. He won the DREAM Songwriting Competition in 2006 and is a member of Katha and the Filipino Society of Composers.

A professional production and graphic designer, he has designed big musicals such as costumes for Trumpets’ Little Mermaid, Noah’s Big Boat, Alice in Christmasland, Fisherman and his Wife, The Happy Prince, Joseph the Dreamer. He owns Vivid Vizuals graphic design firm.

As a professional choreographer for the stage, TV shows and MTVs trained by Swiss Chamber Ballet, Powerdance, PBT, DanceArts, he teaches Hiphop, Jazz, Flamenco, Tap, Yoga, Ballet, Breakdance, Tai-chi and Contemporary dance.

He is a creative account executive at Stages Production Specialists, events director for Livewire and ActivAsia.

He has taught part-time and has given lectures in DLSU, ADMU, PNU, UST, CCP and Temple Hill I.S.

He is the proprietor of the Quickstep dance Studio and Sideman Lee lights and sounds rental.

He regularly gives lectures and workshops on Liturgical Dance Choreography to various ministries and church organizations using his I.S. thesis.

He was the Departmental awardee for I.S. batch 2000 and has also won Ateneo’s Dean’s Awards for the Arts, Meg Magazine’s 50 young achievers of 2003, Chalk’s Young & Beautiful Batch of 100, and was adjudged Most Outstanding Individual for Service and Excellence.

As a Marketer, he is nominated this year as Young Market Masters of 2008 and has won Philippine Quality Award for Business Excellence 2004, the Philippine Star Award and Global Awards for Marketing Excellence 2005.
